GRE General Test has 5 sections: Verbal ability, Analytical Writing Ability, Quantitative Ability, Unscored and Experimentation / Research Sections. Scoring in the Quant section is very important for gaining an overall good score. The Quant section has 2 sections, with each section of 20 questions and 40 questions in total with 1 point increment counting to 170 scores. Each section has 30 minutes to complete the task, and the entire Quant section can be completed in 1 hour, 10 minutes, / 70 minutes with a 2-minute break between each section.

The syllabus of the GRE Quant section covers all the basics, including 10th class Maths

  • Arithmetic (Number Systems, Percentages, Fractions and Decimals)
  • Algebra (Quadratic Equations)
  • Geometry (Basic Coordinate Geometry, Ratios, Proportions, 2D & 3D Dimensional Figures)
  • Data Analysis ( Data Collection and Data Interpretation)

Tips for GRE Quant:

1. Arithmetic should be the top priority:

  • Arithmetic questions form the more significant part of the Quant section.
  • Therefore, attempt this section first since it takes time to solve.
  • This Arithmetic section looks easy, but it is more complicated than any other section of Quant.

2. Analyze your Strengths and Weaknesses:

  • Knowing your strengths and weaknesses can help you plan your study schedule accordingly.
  • For example, understand which section needs more concentration and time.
  • Weak areas can be given more time and dedication than solid areas.
  • For example, the Algebra section may be easy for some students, while for others, Geometry may be a cakewalk.

3. Avoid any Careless mistakes:

  • In exams like GRE, every question must be answered with extreme care.
  • Although there are no negative marks, careless mistakes can cost you a lot.
  • So Concentrate well while reading and answering the questions.

4. Know when to use your Calculator:

  • The students must appropriately judge the use of the Calculator.
  • One should know whether solving the problem needs a Calculator or not.
  • Most of the questions can be solved without the help of a Calculator.
  • However, students can not bring their Calculators but can utilize the ones provided on the screen for your benefit.

5. Memorize the formulas

  • Practise the fundamentals like formulas, Squares, Decimals, Prime numbers etc.
  • It is vital to practise these basics to keep pace with the exam.
  • In addition, having a good understanding of these basics helps stay calm during the exam.
  • Most of the quant problems like Algebra, Geometry, and Arithmetic require Formulas to perform fast.

6. Use the Scratchpad

  • GRE allows you to use 6 Scratch papers to do any rough work for Quant or other subjects.
  • Students are asked to submit their scratch papers after using them altogether.
  • It is essential to use these Scratch papers, as it would be challenging to do all the calculations in mind.
  • Always check the total/answer of the question twice with the ones in the scratch paper. Draw diagrams for Geometry problems.

7. Concentrate on the rare problems:

  • Attempting Rare problems and questions give the advantage of getting good scores in standardized exams like the GRE.
  • Unfortunately, not all students practice rare questions to fear that they might take more time to solve.
  • However, these rare questions will give a great score in the competition.
  • Gather these questions from the study materials, senior students and your trainers.

8. Inspect your pace:

  • Pace forms an essential factor in competitive exams like GRE.
  • As there are no negative marks, students will try to answer almost all the questions possible, making time lost.
  • Taking more time for a particular section might put you in trouble.
